Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack sweep Dinos, secure first home playoff series in program history

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team wrapped up their 2025-26 regular season schedule with a commanding 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-19) victory over the Calgary Dinos Saturday afternoon.
  • With the win - and Manitoba falling to Fraser Valley - TRU finishes the season fourth in the conference and will host playoff action inside the TCC for the first time in program history.
  • The best-of-three Canada West Quarter-finals series will take place Thursday, Feb. 26, Friday Feb. 27 and Saturday Feb. 28 if needed. All three games will start at 6:00 p.m. Ticket information will be released at a later date on the TRU WolfPack website

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Middle Faith Christensen was fantastic in what will be the final regular season game of her WolfPack career, putting down eight kills on just 11 swings while also adding three blocks. Maria Dancheva was also a force to be reckoned with in the middle for the 'Pack, recording eight kills, seven blocks and a pair of service aces. Libby Meldrum, who will finish the season leading all of U SPORTS in assists, added 32 more to her tally for 725 on the year.
  • Sophia Hansen finished with a team-high 15 kills for Calgary.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack took a six-point lead in the middle portion of the first set and never looked back en route to the 25-21 victory. The turning point in the set came when TRU scored five-straight points, including three kills in a row by Gent, to turn what was a 14-13 WolfPack edge into a commanding 19-13 lead. The 'Pack wouldn't let that lead go the rest of the way as a kill from Ward ended the set with a big swing.
  • Christensen led the way with four kills in the second as TRU took a 25-20 victory. The WolfPack fired in three service aces including one from Keira Gent that gave the 'Pack a large 18-11 lead they wouldn't surrender en route to the 25-20 victory.
  • It was more of the same in the third as the WolfPack put the game to bed in convincing fashion 25-19. A block from Dancheva and Meldrum gave the 'Pack an early edge at 9-5. From there Gent and Christensen both had two kills in the set to help TRU pull away for the 25-19 victory.

NOTABLE
  • The games will be the first-ever Canada West playoff games inside the TCC for women's volleyball and also mark the first time that the team has qualified for the playoffs three years in a row.
  • Finishing the season with a record of 14-6, the WolfPack recorded the best winning percentage (70%) in a single season in program history.
  • 10 of the WolfPack's 14 wins this season finished 3-0, giving them their most straight-sets victories in a season in program history.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm
  • It wasn't super impressive as far as efficient execution and a pretty offensive display but sometimes the name of the game is to just hang on longer than the other team and I think we were able to do that.
  • It was a tight turnaround for both teams, playing late last night and early this morning and I think we didn't have quite as much pep in our step but were able to get the job done.
  • Any time you are able to go on the road and pick up a couple 3-0 wins you can't be sad about that so overall I'm happy we got it done in Calgary.
  • ON PLAYING A PLAYOFF SERIES INSIDE THE TCC "We are excited to host, it's a new benchmark for our program - something that we've never been able to do. We'll be happy to not travel and play in front of our fans and the city of Kamloops. We are looking forward to the support and I know the girls are excited for that. The girls that have been on this journey for a long time have earned this so I'm really happy for them. Hosting is great but we want to make sure that we are taking care of business and putting ourselves in the best position possible to be successful in a couple of weeks.

UP NEXT
  • Earning a bye through the opening round of the playoffs next weekend, the 'Pack will have a week off before they host the Manitoba Bisons inside the TCC. That best-of-three Canada West Quarter-finals series will take place Thursday, Feb. 26, Friday Feb. 27 and Saturday Feb. 28 if needed. All three games will start at 6:00 p.m.
