Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – Coming off a regular season that saw them set a new mark for the highest winning percentage in program history, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team will make some more history this week as they host the Manitoba Bisons in a best-of-three Canada West quarter-final series Feb. 26 – 28 inside the TCC. The games will be the first time ever that the team has hosted Canada West postseason action.
Facing the Bisons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 6:00 p.m. on Saturday (if needed) the games will see the 14-6 and No. 4 seed WolfPack trying to defeat the 14-6 and No. 5 seed Bisons.
Near the top of Canada West for much of the season, the WolfPack have consistently battled it out with top teams in the conference, securing wins over the No. 2 seed UBC T-Birds, No. 3 seed TWU Spartans, these very same No. 4 Manitoba Bisons, No. 6 seed Saskatchewan Huskies and No. 7 seed UFV Cascades.
The WolfPack secured home court advantage on the final weekend of the season in part due to a pair of 3-0 wins over the Calgary Dinos. The victories over Calgary gave TRU their first weekend sweep of the second semester.
Manitoba, the reigning U SPORTS National Champions, split their last action of the regular season defeating UFV 3-0 on Friday before falling to the Cascades by a tally of 3-0 on Saturday.
These teams met earlier in the season with the WolfPack coming out on top in late November.
Keira Gent led the way with 25 kills in just six sets as the 'Pack picked up back-to-back wins of 3-0 over Manitoba.
The winner of this series will advance to the single elimination Canada West Final Four hosted at the highest remaining seed. With the TWU Spartans hosing the U SPORTS National Championship this season, if TWU wins their quarter-final series against the Saskatchewan Huskies all four teams in the final four will advance to the national championship tournament.
