Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack earn overtime victory in season finale

QUICK FIRE
  • It was a dramatic finish to the 2025-26 season for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team that pulled out a 65-57 overtime victory over the UNBC Timberwolves Saturday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Sydney Vollrath led the WolfPack with 13 points on the night. Morgan Eichenberger made it seven double-doubles this season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Olena Vasylenko was all over the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds and eight assists.
  • Aurora Cabrera had a monster night for the TWolves, finishing with 19 points, 18 rebounds and five blocks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The hosts held a slim lead after a close first frame. Hailey Merrigan had seven points and rookie Micah Ramsay knocked down a pair of three-pointers but UNBC held a 14-13 edge after the opening ten minutes.
  • TRU turned things around in the second, holding UNBC to just nine points en route to taking the lead. Six-straight points from Vollrath saw the 'Pack end the half on an 8-2 run en route to a 28-23 lead after the halftime whistle.
  • UNBC battled back in the third, having their best quarter of the night offensively with 18 points. Maddy Hackman and Olivia Randall both hit from long-range but the TWolves outscored TRU 18-13 in the quarter to send the teams into the fourth tied up at 41-41.
  • A back-and-forth fourth quarter solved nothing. Ramsay and Vasylenko paced the 'Pack to a five-point lead with just under two minutes remaining but the Timberwolves responded with an 8-3 run as Viktoriia Filatova tallied a layup with 15 seconds left that tied the game 53-53 and sent the teams to overtime.
  • TRU dominated the extra frame. The WolfPack scored six of the extra session's first eight points to take a lead they wouldn't surrender en route to the 65-57 victory.

NOTABLE
  • While they just narrowly missed out on a postseason berth, the eight wins that TRU secured this season is the most for the program since 2017-18.
  • The victory was TRU's fourth-straight over the Timberwolves.
  • Eichenberger's seven double-doubles is tied for the conference lead at the time of writing.
  • Vasylenko's 78 assists this season slots her into seventh in the program record books for most assists in a single season.
  • Eichenberger's mark of 9.2 rebounds-per-game ties her for the third-most in a season in program history

UP NEXT
  • The game was the final contest of the season for a young team that featured just two players in their third year of eligibility and none in their fourth or fifth.
