Under Hennelly’s direction, the men’s volleyball team has been to the CIS National Championships three times, winning a Bronze medal in 2008 and three Canada West Bronze medals, in 2008, 2009 and 2014. The team has also been in the CIS Top Ten coaches’ poll for eight of the last nine seasons, reaching as high as fourth place in the 2013-14 season.
Known as a shrewd judge of talent, Hennelly has recruited top players from not only Canada, but Denmark, the United States, Egypt, Monaco, Turkey, and France. He has an extensive coaching background, having coached at Northern Arizona University (NCAA Division 1) and as an assistant coach with both the men’s and women’s programs at UBC. Hennelly is very involved in the Volleyball BC program.
He holds two Bachelor Degrees from UBC, one in human kinetics and the other in education. He also holds an NCCP Level III coaching certificate. He and his wife Heidi have three children, Tosca and twins Mika and Kaija. To help relax from the rigors of coaching CIS volleyball, Pat is an avid gardener and makes a mean pot of chili.
