WolfPack home opener a howling success with a 5-2 win over UVic

TRU had command of the game for the first 40 minutes and finished with a five to two win over the University of Victoria at Memorial Arena on Oct. 12.   [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="500"]WolfPack at the blue line vs UVIC opening ceremonies (Karlene Skretting Oct 12, 2012).jpg WolfPack at the blue line for opening ceremonies (photo contributed by Karlene Skretting)[/caption] Thompson Rivers University came out strong, taking control early when Colten DeFrias scored an unassisted goal at just 3:20 into the first to put the WolfPack on the scoreboard.   [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="450"]Don Schulz (mens hockey coach-cropped 2012-13 Andrew Snucins) WolfPack Head coach Don Schulz (Andrew Snucins photo)[/caption] “With few turn overs in the neutral zone, we were able to use our speed to get the puck into the net,” said head coach Don Schulz. [caption id="" align="alignnone" width="333"]Alessio Tomassetti (2012-13 Andrew Snucins) Alessio Tomassetti (Andrew Snucins photo)[/caption] The momentum carried into the second period when Alessio Tomassetti put one into the back of the net at the 13-minute mark. Forty-four seconds later Jarrett Martin got the third goal of the evening for the WolfPack.   “We spend a lot more time in the offensive zone this game relieving pressure on the defense and that really helped our overall game play,” said Schulz. The second star was Colten DeFrias with two goals and an assist. The Third star was Shawn Mueller from UVic. DeFrias has a two game season total of five points and is the league leader. Jarrett Martin has four points and is in second place and John Bokla is in fourth according to the BCIHL website.
