If the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men’s basketball team is sick, they never want to get better. The WolfPack are in a big time ‘winning groove’.
Thompson Rivers has kicked off the 2015-16 Canada West regular season with four straight road victories. The fourth one came on Saturday night (Nov 14) at Mount Royal. TRU downed the Cougars 79-66.
The Cougars are 1-3 on the year.
“It’s great to be heading home after four straight wins on the road,” stated TRU assistant coach Tallon Milne. “ We pulled this one out and it’ll be great to begin taking care of business at home next weekend.”
Volodymyr Iegorov (3rd year, forward, Donetsk, Ukraine) had 30 points for TRU while Josh Wolfram (5th year, forward, Kamloops, BC) added 25 points.
Former WolfPack player Derek Wolf (Penticton, BC) led Mount Royal with 22 points.
Both teams started the game of cold, not scoring a basket for the first two minutes of the contest. But the trio of Iegorov, Wolfram and Reese Pribilsky (5th year, guard, Victoria, BC) had the Cougars lost in their own zone: leading 22-13 after the first quarter.
“Vlad really came out to play tonight,’ Milne stated. “ He scored 16 of our teams first 18 points.”
TRU led 40-30 at the half.
Pribilsky had a team high 12 assists for TRU. Luke Morris (3rd year, guard, Mission, BC) had 15 points.
The WolfPack have yet to suffer the taste of defeat this year after going through the exhibition season unbeaten. When asked about what is going right for the team, Milne stated: “ We have a solid core of veterans and are getting some big contributions from the bench. It is as simple as that.”
Thompson Rivers has their home opening weekend on November 20-21 st when they entertain the MacEwan Griffins on the Warner Rentals Court at the Tournament Capital Centre. Friday’s tip off is 8 pm.
On Saturday (Nov 21), it is “McDonalds Family Night”. Tip off that night is 7 pm.
