Thompson Rivers University will be represented for a third straight year at the Western Canadian University Curling Championships.
The Corryn Brown foursome—consisting of Brown at skip, third Erin Pincott, second Samantha Fisher, lead Ashley Nordin and fifth Sydney Fraser are in Edmonton, Alberta for the start of the championships.
It is the second straight year that Brown and her rink: four of whom are the BC Junior women’s curling champs for 2015 are representing Thompson Rivers. Nordin played with another foursome this competitive curling season after maxing out her eligibility in the junior ranks.

“We haven’t had a lot of time to play with Ashley this year as she has been busy playing for a women’s team consisting of her three sisters and herself, “says Brown. “The rest of our rink has just got back from Nationals. We have had a couple of good practices together lately though and have high hopes for the Westerns.”
Brown, Pincott, Fisher and Fraser won their pool (6-0) at Nationals and wound up 7-3 in the championship pool before bowing out to Ontario in the semi final.

Brown says when it comes to the Western’s she and her rink have been refining their skills. “ It is a little late in the season to be changing anything too drastically. We are just tweaking small things if required. Building our strategy has definitely been a focus of late as well.”
The Western Canadians begin Friday (Feb 13) with the WolfPack meeting Alberta and Kelsey Rocque in the first draw at 9 am MDT. Rocque is the two time Canadian Junior women’s champion but last year at the Westerns, the WolfPack beat her Alberta Panda squad.
The other team at the Westerns is representing the University of Regina.

The rinks will play a true double round robin with two and possibly all three moving to the CIS championships to be held at the KW Granite Club in Waterloo, Ontario March 18-21 st.
Brown says representing the university---as a club team—is an honor. “It is definitely different representing our school compared to our city or province in a few ways,” she says. “I find teachers are a bit more forgiving for missing class due to school sports. Playing for TRU gives us a sense of pride and school spirit and also a connection with other WolfPack athletes.”
