-The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's rugby seven's had a tough first day as they opened up their 2019 Canada West season.
The Pack lost all three matches they played on Saturday (Jan 19) at the Foote Indoor Field in Edmonton, Alberta.
Thompson Rivers opened up with a 49-0 defeat at the hands of the University of Calgary Dinos. They followed that up with a 55-0 setback to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
Their third match of the day saw TRU drop a 42-5 decision to the University of Fraser Valley Cascades.
Stephanie Simard had the lone try for Thompson Rivers.
"It was a tough day on the scoreboard but improvements all around from last year, " said TRU head coach
Derek Pue about his squad's performance on Saturday.
TRU will play a consolation side game on Sunday (Jan 20) against the host University of Alberta Pandas.
Thompson Rivers has two more tournaments in their season: February in Abbotsford, BC and March in Vancouver, BC.
This is the final year of the Canada West 'trial period' into women's rugby sevens and Thompson Rivers' second season.
