If the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's soccer team has anything to do with it, their 2019 season won't end this weekend.
Sure, it is the final weekend of the Canada West regular season but the WolfPack are hoping that victories on the road at Fraser Valley and Trinity Western will push them into the playoffs for the second time in their history.
The Pack will visit Abbotsford and the Cascades on Friday (Oct 18) before finishing the season off in Langley on Saturday (Oct 19) with an encounter against one of head coach
Mark Pennington's former teams: the Trinity Western University Spartans.
Thompson Rivers is still mathematically alive in the hunt for one of six playoff spots in the Canada West Pacific Division.
DETAILS:
The Spartans have clinched a post season berth already and enter the weekend on a two game winning streak and sitting second in the Pacific. Fraser Valley is sitting in that coveted sixth position in the division but have lost their last two starts (ironically at the hands of arch rival Trinity Western). The Pack are a point back of UFV in seventh spot.
This is the first meeting of the season between the Pack and these two teams.
RECORDS OF NOTE:
UFV: has 2-5-5 record with a winning percentage of 0.306
TRINITY WESTERN: are 10-1-1 and have a winning percentage of 0.861
TRU: 2-6-4 on the season and are 2-2-1 on the road this season. They are 1-2-2 in their last five starts. The Pack have a winning percentage of .0278.
WHAT HAPPENED HISTORICALLY BETWEEN THE PACK AND THESE TEAMS:
This weekend's matches will be the sixth between the schools in the last five years. Thompson Rivers has yet to beat either team or to score a goal against them. They last played last season. The matches were in Langley and Abbotsford. UFV blanked TRU 3-0 (Sept 30). The night previous (Sept 29) Trinity Western took the Pack 6-0.
