Men's Basketball home to host UNBC

Richard Mageto against MacEwan
A look at the standings in Canada West men's basketball will put a smile on the face of anyone following the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack.  That's because the standings see the Pack on top of every other team in the Canada West.

The WolfPack and the Alberta Golden Bears both have 5-1 records but the Pack get first place based on the most points scored.
Thompson Rivers puts their three game winning streak on the line this weekend (Nov 22-23) when they play host to the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves.  The teams will go head-to-head Friday night at  5 PM PDT and Saturday night at 7 PM PDT at the Tournament Capital Centre.

The Timberwolves lost both ends of their home doubleheader last weekend to the UBC Thunderbirds and sport a record of 3-3.  That is good enough for a tie for eighth spot in Canada West.  UNBC's Fareed Shittu (1st year, forward, Edmonton, AB)  is the only player in the games this weekend who is among the statistical leaders in the league. He stand fifth in field goal percent at 62.9
UNBC features one local player: Spencer Ledoux is a grad of Westsyde Secondary. The 6'6" forward is into his second year with the Timberwolves.  He has started in all five of UNBC's games averaging 8.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game in 24.6 minutes played per game.

Last year in Prince George, the teams split: The WolfPack lost the Friday night game (Jan 4, 2019) 90-81 as Joe Davis (5th year, forward, Kamloops, BC), Micheal Rouault (5th year, guard, Vernon, BC) and Derek Rhodes each had 17 points.  The next night (Jan 5, 2019), TRU won 82-778 behind Rouault's 15 points and Anton Bilous (5th year, guard, Cerkassy, Ukraine)'s 26 points.
In 2017-18, the teams played at the TCC where the WolfPack won both nights. On the Friday (Dec 1), TRU won 86-80. Rouault led the Pack with 22 points while Luke Morris added 21 and Rhodes added 10. The Saturday (Dec 2), TRU was a 93-72 victor. Morris led the TRU offense with 24.Rhodes had 23 with Davis adding 17.

The games this weekend are "TRUSU Food Bank Weekend".   Those coming to the games are being asked to donate a non-perishable food item. If they do that, they will get in for free. There will be donation bids at the gate.

The following weekend (Nov 28-29), the WolfPack close out the pre-Christmas portion of their Canada West season meeting the defending league champions and current number one nationally (U SPORTS) ranked Saskatchewan Huskies at the Tournament Capital Centre.
