The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack women's soccer team are announcing their fourth signing for the upcoming Canada West regular season.
Solaine Sasakmoose is the latest player to agree to a letter of intent with the WolfPack and will join the program in August. Sasakmoose is a multi-positional player who plays wing, full back, and forward.
"I believe I am a well-rounded player who can adapt to any position," the 5'5" Sasakmoose said. " I think some of my other strengths are to take set pieces and deliver through balls, and be creative in the final third of the field."
She currently plays for Coquitlam Metro Ford in the EA SPORTS BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL), the provincial high-performance soccer league, and she is a student at Burnaby North Secondary.
Sasakamoose will be pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at TRU. She has seen U SPORTS matches at UBC and is looking forward to stepping up to Canada West this season. " I loved the tempo," she said. "I know it will be big step up considering the competition and style of play, but it is something I am looking forward to."
After her visit to the Kamloops campus, Sasakamoose knew she wanted to study and play for TRU. "I felt at home and comfortable when I came for the TRU tour," she said. "It's a great school with good support and a good team environment." She was also born in Kamloops and looks forward to being able to spend time with family who still live in the area.
Sasakamoose played high-performance soccer last year against current WolfPack player
Ainsley Grether and met her during her school visit last summer.
One of her uncles, Fred Sasakamoose was the first First Nations player in the National Hockey League.
Says WolfPack head coach
Mark Pennington about his latest recruit, ""I am really excited to have Solaine join the team. She is a player I have followed closely for a number of years and feel she has all the tools to be a successful player at the USPORTS level. "
He adds, " Solaine is a versatile player that can play in a number of positions. Her dead ball striking ability could be a real asset to the team. I am looking forward to working with her here at TRU"
Other announced recruits committed to the WolfPack program for the coming year are: Mae Hobenshield (5'8" keeper, Port Coquitlam, BC-BC Christian Academy/TSS Black-Grey), Rylee Mugridge (5'6", midfield, Maple Ridge, BC-Thomas Haney Secondary/Surrey United), and Daniella Falsetta (5'2", midfield, Kamloops, BC-South Kamloops Secondary/TOFC).
The WolfPack begin their 2019-20 Canada West training camp at Hillside Stadium in early August.
