WSOC drop home opener and debut for Pennington

Mark Pennington made his home debut vs MacEwan
Box Score It wasn't the home opener nor the home debut that Coach Mark Pennington and the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women's soccer team would have wanted.  The WolfPack gave up 33 shots and fell 4-0 to the visiting MacEwan Griffins in Canada West action Friday (Sept 13) on the Warner Rentals Field at Hillside Stadium.  It was the start of soccer alumni weekend at Thompson Rivers.

The Griffins were led by Suekiana Choucair (5th year, midfield, Edmonton, AB).  She had two goals in the second half as  MacEwan scored three times in that 45 minute span.
The WolfPack fall to 0-2-1 on the season.  MacEwan is 2-0-1.

 SYNOPSIS

The Griffins controlled play for most of the first half. They opened the scoring at the end of the first half when the Pack headed the ball out and it wound up on the foot of Raeghan McCarthy (3rd year, forward, Edmonton, AB).  She booted the ball high from about 20 yards out .   TRU keeper Danielle Robertson (3rd year, Courtney, BC) dove and the ball went over her body and into the right lower part of the net.

The Griffins had 33 shots in the contest with 11 on the goal.   TRU had 6 shots, four made it to MacEwan keeper Emily Burns (5th year, Sherwood Park, AB)
.
McEwan went up 2-0 in the 58th minute as Choucair capitalized on a TRU turnover at midfield, she turned on the jets and moved to the right side around Pack defender Julia Burkart (2nd year, Nelson, BC) and launched it past Robertson.

In the 64 th minute, Choucair was hauled down in the box and was awarded a penalty kick and found the back of the net on the left side for her second of the match and the season.

MacEwan completed their scoring in the 84th minute. Maya Morrell (2nd year, forward, Vancouver, BC) tucked in the rebound after Robertson was down and out after making the initial save.
The Griffins had five corner kicks (four in the second half) to TRU's one, which came in the second half.
