Men's Basketball closing out home portion of season hosting UFV

It will be a battle of two playoff bound teams as the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men's basketball team close out the home portion of their Canada West regular season as they entertain the University of Fraser Valley Cascades.

The teams battle Friday and Saturday (Jan 31 and Feb 1) on the champ court at the Tournament Capital Centre.

Both the WolfPack and the Cascades have secured post season berths.  TRU enters the weekend sitting in sixth spot with an 11-5 record.   Fraser Valley is nipping on their heels at 10-6 and have won their last seven straight.  Thompson Rivers has a 3-2 record in their last five.

Thompson Rivers is 6-2 at home.  UFV is 5-4 on the road.

Tip off Friday (Jan 31) will be 5 pm.  On Saturday (Feb 1), the teams go head-to-head at 7 PM.

Friday night is "Donor night", where individuals and companies who contribute to scholarships and bursaries are being recognized.  There will also be a formal announcement of the "WolfPack 50" fundraising effort.    Saturday night is dedicated to "Alumni" where those who played for the Cariboo College Chiefs, University College of the Cariboo Sun Demons and WolfPack will be recognized. 
As well, before the contest, the team will honor its current crop of fifth year players: Joe Davis (Kamloops, BC), Micheal Rouault (Vernon, BC), Anton Bilous (Cerkassy, Ukraine) and Kyrin Cybenko (Saskatoon, SK).
 
HISTORY

These teams opened up the 2018-19 season in Abbotsford  on (Oct 26-27, 2018).  They split. The WolfPack won the opener in overtime 69-64 thanks to 25 points from Bilous and 11 from  Davis.  Sukhjot Baines had 27 points for Fraser Valley.

TRU lost the second game 83-72. They were down 45-38 at the half.  Rouault had 19 points off the bench. Derek Rhodes had 16 points while Davis had 15.  Fraser Valley was led by Parm Baines with18 points.  Four of the five UFV starters were in double figures that night.

The last time these two met at the TCC was January 12-13, 2018.  Thompson Rivers was victorious both nights.  On January 12th, the score was 77-71.  TRU led 47-34 at the half.    Rhodes had 21 points for TRU while  Davis had 17 and Rouault added 11.   Vic Toor had 17 for UFV with Matt Cooley adding 16 and Parm  Bains having 11.

The following night (Jan 13, 2018), Thompson Rivers won by 30 points (99-69) outscoring Fraser Valley 31-9 in the third quarter as they led 46-39 at the break. Bilous and Nolan Willet had 16 points each to lead TRU.  Tyus Devries had 12 points off the bench while Luke Morris had 16 for the winners.  Toor and Cooley had 18 points a piece in the losing cause with Daniel Adedian contributing 12.

Thompson Rivers:

Joe Davis (5th year, forward, Kamloops, BC): the WolfPack's all time leading scorer (1084), he is third in minutes played this year (29.6) and is second in scoring (16.3 points per game) and rebounds (6.4)
Micheal Rouault (5th year, guard, Vernon, BC): leads the team in rebounds (9.3) and steals (1.7) and second in blocks ).7), second in minutes played (30.1) and third in team scoring (13.7 points per game).
Anton Bilous (5th year, guard, Cerkassy, Ukraine): leads the team in minutes played (30.4) and lscoring (16.4)
Rojhe Colbert (3rd year, forward, Phoenix, AZ): third on the Pack in rebounds (4.8 per game)
Kyrin Cybenko (5th year, forward, Saskatoon, SK) leads the team in blocks (0.8)

UFV:

Sukhojot Bains (5th year, guard, Delta, BC):second on the team in scoring (15.6 points) and minutes played (33.3).  He leads the Cascades in rebounds (9.6) and in steals (1.1).
Matt Cooley (5th year, forward, Coquitlam, BC):second on the team in rebounds (7.1), fourth on the team in scoring 8.9 points per game averaging 22.3 minutes.
Parm Bains (5th year, guard, Surrey, BC): started all 16 games this year for UFV and has played the most minutes (34.9), leading the team in scoring (19.8 points per game) and tied for the team lead in steals (0.9)
Vic Toor (3rd year guard, Kent, WA): third in minues played (22.4) and third in scoring (9.8 points per game)
Daniel Adediran (3rd year, guard, Abbotsford, BC) :  third on the team in rebounds (5.8 per game) and tied for lead in blocks (0.5 per game)
