Joe Davis: Canada West men's basketball all-star

Joe Davis has added another honor to his university basketball career. The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack co-captain has been named a Canada West second team all-star.  The league announced it's all-star teams in a press release this noon hour (Feb 20).

The 6'6" graduate of Westsyde Secondary was selected an all-star by the Canada West coaches for his performance this regular season.

Davis, who became TRU's all time leading scorer in January, finished  13th in Canada West in field goal per cent (52),  15th in scoring averaging 16.6 points per game, and  18 th in the league in rebounds averaging 6.5 per game.  Davis started all 20 of the WolfPack regular season games averaging 30.7 minutes.
Davis started his university basketball career in 2014.  He took a year off in 2015-16. His career totals were 1154 points in 97 games with Thompson Rivers.  He also has the record for most career field goals with 468 and most games started with 78.  He leaves with the second most minutes played (2431), fourth highest field goal percentage (468-908 51.5 per cent), fourth most free throws (178), fourth most rebounds (97), fourth most assists (162), sixth best assist to turnover ratio (162 assists-152 turnovers;1.1 ratio) and ninth most blocks (28).

He plans to pursue a Bachelor of Education degree at Thompson Rivers and go into teaching
.
Says WolfPack head coach Scott Clark about Davis' selection, "Couldn't be happier for Joe.  Local kid who really worked at his craft to become a better basketball player in terms of his strength, his conditioning. I am not sure there is a better 6'6' post player that can face the basket or score with his back to the basket in the country.  He deserves all that success. He has worked at it. He has been diligent.  When your recruit somebody you have a projection in your mind of how things will turnout.  I think things have turned out exactly how I hoped they would turn out for Joe. I am pleased for him."

Clark adds, " I know Joe would give up any individual accolades to have a little more team success. But being recognized by the other coaches in your conference as a fifth-year player for all the hard work you had done. It has to feel good for you."
