Men's basketball drops fifth in a row losing in Lethbridge

The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack men's basketball team have suffered their fifth straight loss in Canada West men's basketball.   The Pack went into Lethbridge, Alberta for the first time since 2013 and fell 86-77 to the host Pronghorns at the First Choice Savings Centre. 

The Pronghorns have now won five in a row in what was a battle of two teams which had already clinched playoff spots on Friday (Feb 7).
The teams were deadlocked at 40 at half time but Lethbridge outscored Thompson Rivers 46-37 in the second half.

The Pronghorns had four players in double figures led by Colton Gibb. The fourth year guard from Lethbridge had 26 points, five rebounds and one block.  Jeffery Fodehutskors (2nd year, centre, Dalemead, AB) had 17 points.   Fifth year guard Kyle Peterson (Barnwell, AB) had 14 points, nine assists and two steals while Chad Oviatt (3rd year, guard, Edmonton, AB) had 12 points, four steals and five blocks. Brett Warren (4th year, guard, St. John's, NL) had eight assists and three steals.

Thompson Rivers was led by their all-time leading scorer Joe Davis (5th year, forward, Kamloops, BC).  He had 18 points and 11 rebounds.    Anton Bilous (5th year, guard, Cerkassy, Ukraine) had 11 points, 1 block and 1 steal.    Tyus De Vries (3rd year, guard, Chilliwack, BC) had 17 points and two assists coming off the bench.  Micheal Rouault (5th year, guard, Vernon, BC) had five rebounds, three assists and one steal while fellow fifth year Kyrin Cybenko (forward, Saskatoon, SK) had five rebounds.

Lethbridge had a 47.4 field goal per cent in the game compared to TRU's 44..  The Pack's three point percent was 40 compared to Lethbridge's 30.  TRU also out rebounded Lethbridge 41 37.   The Pack had 33 defensive boards to the Pronghorns 30.

 SYNOPSIS
The WolfPack led 22-11 after the first quarter and at one point had a 7-0 run. They were  led by eight points form both De Vries (coming off the bench) and Bilous who also had three rebounds and a block in the period. Davis had four points and three rebounds as for Thompson Rivers who shot 45 per cent (9-20) in the first period.   Gibb had six for the Pronghorns

In the second quarter, it was Lethbridge who held the offensive advantage outgunning TRU 29-18 in the period.  The 'Horns were down by 12 at one point as the teams were tied at 40 at the break.  The Pack shot 42.9 per cent from three point territory in the first half compared to 33.3 for Lethbridge.     Davis and De Vries had 12 points each at the break for the WolfPack while Bilous chipped in with 10.  Lethbridge was led by Gibb with 15 points and three rebounds Rodehutskors had 11 points and a block  while Oviatt had six rebounds and a steal.

The third period had each team have eight point runs but Lethbridge outscored Thompson Rivers 20-18 and led 60-58 going into the break.  The Pack had turned over the ball 15 times in the contest going into the fourth quarter compared to nine for Lethbridge.

COMMENTS BY COACH  SCOTT CLARK:
For the fifth straight game, we have had the lead with four minutes left in the contest but we gave it away. We have to figure out how to close games.
