KAMLOOPS – It came down to the very last shot of the game but in the end the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team couldn't get a break when they needed it most in a 69-67 loss to the visiting UNBC Timberwolves.
A
Daniel Bost layup to make the score 69-67 in favour of the Timberwolves with 39 seconds left in the game set up a thrilling ending. After a stifling effort from the TRU defence on the other end of the court gave the home team the ball back with just seconds on the clock, a last-second WolfPack shot appeared to fall before the refs waved it off for a shot clock violation to end the game.
Tyrell Laing and Fareed Shittu led the way for the Timberwolves. Laing tallied a game-high 20 points while Shittu put up 18 points and 12 rebounds in the winning effort.
Both
Asher Mayan and
Brad King had monster efforts for the WolfPack. Mayan, a second-year forward from Langley tallied 18 points and 11 rebounds while King put up 16 and 10 in the first WolfPack game of his career.
A tight game throughout, neither team led by more than 10 points all night in what was a defensive duel. The WolfPack trailed for most of the night before a rally at the end of the game set up the explosive finish.
Both of these teams will be back in action tomorrow night. The Timberwolves will head to Abbotsford to face the Fraser Valley Cascades while the 'Pack will remain in Kamloops to take on the UBC Okanagan Heat inside the TCC.
