KAMLOOPS – The final home weekend of the regular season is here for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack (3-1-4) men's soccer team that plays host to a surging Fraser Valley Cascades (1-3-2) squad.

While the teams are at polar opposites of the West Division standings – with TRU occupying first and Fraser Valley currently in seventh – the race for the playoffs remains incredibly tight, and the matches on October 8-9 will go along towards determining the postseason picture.

Taking place Friday night at 7 p.m. and Saturday night at 5 p.m., the contests will serve as the TRU's final Canada West regular season home games of the season. On Saturday night fifth-year forward James Fraser will be honoured in a graduating player ceremony pre-game, while during the halftime break alumni from the 2017 WolfPack squad that won a U SPORTS bronze medal will be recognized.

Fans 12-and-over attending the games will be required to show proof of full vaccination through their online BC Vaccine Card. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early or by tickets online to beat the lines and get into the stadium in a timely manner.

The WolfPack continued their amazing start to the season last weekend at home. A first loss of the year on Friday was followed up by yet another dramatic late-game winner from the head of Fraser. A split on the weekend with the No. 9 ranked Trinity Western Spartans keeps the WolfPack tied with the Spartans at the top of the West Division standings.

Fraser Valley meanwhile enters the weekend riding the highest of highs. The Abbotsford club registered their first win of the season on Saturday with a huge 5-1 thumping of the perennial powerhouse UBC Thunderbirds. While the Cascades currently bring up the rear of the standing with five points, they have played two fewer games than the UNBC Timberwolves as well as the WolfPack and Spartans.

These two teams met twice in 2019. A 1-1 draw in Abbotsford was followed up with a 3-2 TRU victory in Kamloops.

3 Things

1: Fraser is the lone fifth-year player on the squad. The forward from Penticton is third in WolfPack history in CW goals (18) and fourth in points (26).

2:  Fans 12-and-over attending the games will be required to show proof of full vaccination through their online BC Vaccine Card.

3: TRU Athletics has launched a new online ticketing portal. Beat the lines and buy online!

By the Numbers

2 – Fraser sits just two points away from vaulting up the WolfPack record books. His 26 points has him just behind Justin Donaldson (27) and Ryan Glanville (28).

84 – The WolfPack lead the conference with 84 shots as a team through eight games. Fraser has 14 of those while Patrick Izett has 12 in just four games played.

4-7-2 – The WolfPack are 4-7-2 all-time in Canada West play against the Cascades. At home the 'Pack are 2-4 all-time.

Scouting the Cascades

Fraser Valley's massive upset victory over UBC was spurred on by Trevor Zanatta midfielder who recorded four assists in the match. His four points on the season lead the team while Jackson Cowx and Joben Mander have split matches between the pipes. Cowx holds a record of 1-2-1 and Mander is 0-1-1.
