KAMLOOPS – A trio of goals in the first half led the visiting Fraser Valley Cascades to a 3-0 victory over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack Friday night.
"We didn't show up, we didn't come out of the locker room," said WolfPack head coach
Mark Pennington. "It was not a true representation of who we are, of what our core values are. The key for us now is to take our lessons, learn from them and respond tomorrow, that's what we are building towards."
Hannah Gamble tallied twice with Brittany Costa adding the other marker for the Cascades.
Goalkeeper
Danielle Robertson made history in net for the 'Pack. The fourth-year from Courtenay made four saves on the night, giving her 309 total in her career which puts her third in the Canada West record books.
Fraser Valley's first goal came 15 minutes into the game. Jessica Fennell made a great run down to the end line before cutting in and playing a ball across the 18-yard box that found Gamble at the back-post. From there Gamble made no mistake to score her first goal of the season.
The visitors doubled their lead five minutes before half time. Costa, a third-year midfielder unleashed a rocket of a shot that screamed into the top corner of the WolfPack net.
A third Fraser Valley goal came just two minutes later. Gamble was first to the ball after a scramble in the TRU six-yard box and the midfielder from Hawaii scored her second of the game.
The WolfPack did their best to work their way into the match in the second half but weren't able to muster any clear-cut scoring chances.
Camryn Curts once again led the 'Pack with four shots towards net.
The game also served as Senior Night for the WolfPack.
Georgia Aldus, Cassie Morris and Robertson were honoured prior to the game for their years of play with the 'Pack in what is the final home weekend for TRU.
These two teams will be back in action tomorrow night at Hillside Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at gowolfpack.ca and the game can be watched live on canadawest.tv.
"We have to come out on the front foot," said Pennington. "We prepared all week to do some specific things and unfortunately we just had too many individuals – probably everybody – didn't really get to the fight and show up. I take some of them blame tactically, maybe I got some things wrong but again it's all about how we respond tomorrow and hopefully we can have some success."
