KAMLOOPS – Trailing for just one minute on the night, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team fought off a third quarter push from the UBC Okanagan Heat to record an 82-72 victory inside the Tournament Capital Centre on Friday night.
Holding the lead for much of the contest, the WolfPack's perimeter defence was the story on the night. TRU shot 6-14 from beyond-the-arc as a team while simultaneously limiting the Heat to just 6-39, or 15.4 per cent, of their three-point shots.
Third-year guard
Brendan Sullivan came up clutch for the 'Pack, pouring in 13 of his game-high 23 points in the final frame. Sullivan shot an impressive 7-16 from the floor while also adding four assists.
Brad King racked up another double-double for TRU, finishing the night with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Rounding out the top-scorers for the WolfPack was
Asher Mayan who scored 15 points.
Jesse Vogel had the hot hand for the Heat, scoring 15 points. It was a balanced UBCO attack as Jonathan Haughton, Kevin Hamlet and Imoudu Ibrahim all finished with 10 points in the loss.
A 43-36 TRU lead at the half was quickly erased by a Heat squad that came out of the halftime break playing their best basketball of the night. UBCO went on a 9-0 run to start the frame and snag a slim 45-43 lead, their first since the early stages of the game.
From that point on it was all WolfPack however, four-straight points from King and the WolfPack would take a lead that they didn't surrender again for the rest of the night.
These teams will be back in action inside the Tournament Capital Centre tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. and the game can be watched live on canadawest.tv.
