KAMLOOPS — He's a college athlete who played lacrosse and hockey but has been making his mark in volleyball of late. Owyn McInnis is leaving Mohawk College this coming fall to join the WolfPack Men's Volleyball team.
McInnis currently plays with Mohawk's men's volleyball team. He was also captain of the U17 Guelph Jr. Gryphons, the U18 Hamilton Smash and John F. Ross Jr. and Sr. high-school teams, MVP with the Smash and a high-school all star. That background and versatility is exactly why WolfPack Men's Volleyball Head Coach Pat Hennelly recruited him.
"Owyn brings some post-secondary experience coming in from the Mohawk in the Ontario College League. He will be a solid addition to our outside hitting group," said Hennelly.
"We are always looking for players with a multi-sport background bringing different experiences to our program."
The six-foot-four McInnis said he chose TRU to get a chance at playing in the highest level of the Canada West division. Hennelly made a strong impression on him, as did Kamloops and the university itself, where he plans on earning his bachelor of science.
"Athletically at TRU, I hope to contribute to the team's long-term growth and success. I want to be a member of a positive winning culture with my new teammates on and off of the court," said McInnis.
"TRU has a very competitive men's volleyball program, I am looking forward to competing day in and out with my teammates and improving as a team with an end goal of bringing a men's national volleyball title to TRU."
