KAMLOOPS –
James Fraser's second goal of the season gave them a lead but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team couldn't prevent the UBC Okanagan Heat from equalizing in a game that finished 1-1 in Kelowna.
The result was yet another positive one for the WolfPack, who picked up a win and a tie against the Heat over the weekend to run their Canada West record to 1-0-3.
"The boys are disappointed to let a 1-0 lead slide, but at the end of the day this is a tough place to play on the road so to get four points out of six on the weekend is good," said WolfPack head coach
John Antulov. "We just need to continue the momentum into next weekend."
After the first half ended scoreless, Fraser got the WolfPack on the board just minutes into the second frame.
Midfielder
Marco Favaro took a pass from
Mikkel Rosenlund, spun around a Heat defender and unleashed a rocket of a shot towards the net. The ball hit off the leg of Fraser who was standing on the edge of the 18-yard box and deflected past the Heat goalkeeper into the net.
UBCO was able to work their way back into the game however. The hosts had a flurry of chances after conceding and were able to knot the game back up at 1-1 with a goal in the 60th minute.
The WolfPack created chances of their own down the stretch, looking to make it three games in a row with a late TRU goal, but were unable to breach the Heat defence.
"We tried pushing at the end but UBCO defended well," said Antulov. "Overall I thought we played a good, solid game. We've just got to be a little sharper in the final third."
TRU will stay on the road next weekend, as they head to Vancouver Island for a pair of games with the UVic Vikes.
