KAMLOOPS – After missing out on competition last weekend due to COVID-19 protocols, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team will play their first games of 2022 this weekend against the Trinity Western Spartans in Langley.

Originally scheduled to be just one game on Saturday, the teams were able to schedule a game on Friday night to replace one of the postponed contests that was originally supposed to be played in Kamloops last weekend.

Scheduled for 8:00 p.m. on Friday night and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, the games between the WolfPack (4-4) and Spartans (0-6) will be the first action for the 'Pack in 49 days and will kick off a string of nine games in 30 days.

Prior to the winter break, the WolfPack split a pair of games with the UBC Okanagan Heat inside the TCC while the Spartans were swept by the UBC Thunderbirds in Vancouver.

This will be the first meeting between the WolfPack and Spartans since November of 2019 when TRU swept the Spartans by scores of 102-80 and 85-70

By the Numbers

70.5 – The WolfPack boast the conference's stingiest defence, allowing just 70.5 points per-game.

9.8 – Australian import Brad King is averaging 9.8 rebounds per-game, the third-most in the conference.

9-17 – The WolfPack hold a record of 9-17 vs. the Spartans in all-time Canada West action, but are considerable better at home where the 'Pack have gone 5-6.

Scouting the Spartans

The games will be a contrast in styles. While the WolfPack surrender the fewest points per-game in the conference the Spartans are on the opposite end of the spectrum, allowing 96.2. TWU has four players averaging double-digits in points: Andrew Goertzen (15.3), Ja'Qualyn Gilbreath (15.2), Tre Fillmore (13.3) and Mason Bourcier (12.2).
