KAMLOOPS – They fired 15 shots towards net on the night but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer could only find the back of the net once in a 2-1 loss at the hands of the UBC Okanagan Heat Friday.
Mikkel Rosenlund tallied for the 'Pack with
Patrick Izett picking up his league-leading fifth assist of the season.
Jacobo Saenz Ramos and Juan Pablo Rojas Uri provided the scoring for the Heat while Ronan Woodroffe made eight saves in the win.
Despite falling to 7-3-2 on the year, the 'Pack continue to lead the Pacific Division standings although that advantage was lessened with the result. TRU now sits just one game ahead of the UNBC Timberwolves (6-4-2) with the UBC Thunderbirds (5-3-2) also nipping at their heels.
For the Heat (4-4-2) the win keeps them alive in a tight battle for the fourth and final playoff spot in the division.
TRU was all over the Heat early and Rosenlund opened the scoring just eight minutes into the contest. The product of Denmark rose higher than all the defender and headed home his second goal of the season after Izett sent in a perfect cross from a set piece.
The Heat were able to escape the first half only trailing by one and flipped the game on its head in the second half.
Saenz Ramos and Pable Rojas Uri tallied in the 50th and 77th minute respectively before Woodroffe stood on his head to preserve the lead. TRU threw everything at the net late and had a glorious scoring chance in extra time only to be denied by the UBCO keeper.
TRU held a 15-5 advantage in shots and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks on the night.
These rivals will do battle again tomorrow in Kelowna when they take to the field at 5:45 p.m.
