KAMLOOPS – For the second night in a row the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team controlled the proceedings but failed to come away with the win, this time drawing the UBCO Heat 0-0.
The WolfPack were all over the Heat throughout the night, finishing the game with a significant advantage in shots on goal, 6-0, and corner kicks 10-1.
Jan Pirretas Glasmacher and
Patrick Izett both finished with a pair of shots on goal while
Akwasi Agyekum and
Ryan Lewis added one apiece.
Jackson Gardner recorded his program record fifth shutout of the season for the 'Pack as one of the conference's stingiest defences gave the Heat no room to attack.
For the second game in a row Ronan Woodroffe in the Heat net was the story for UBCO as the rookie goalkeeper from Kelowna was excellent to preserve the draw.
"Give UBCO credit, they battled and their goalkeeper played well," said WolfPack head coach
John Antulov. "He made some big saves on the weekend."
TRU (7-3-3) will now get ready for a weekend of scoreboard watching as the standings in the Pacific Division of Canada West soccer tighten up even more. The UBC Thunderbirds (6-3-2) and UNBC Timberwolves (6-4-2) remain within striking distance of the 'Pack as TRU heads into their bye week.
"We'll give the guys a week off," said Antulov. "I think everybody just needs to recharge their batteries and get refocused."
When TRU does take to the field again it will be in a pair of crucial road matches.
The WolfPack will first face the UVic Vikes on October 21 before taking on the UBC Thunderbirds on October 22 in a season finale that will have massive playoff implications.
