Mackie sets new career mark as WolfPack go toe-to-toe with Heat

KAMLOOPS – They were with them every step of the way, but in the end the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team was unable to pick up their first win of the season in a 57-50 loss at the hands of the UBC Okanagan Heat in Kamloops.
 
After the game was tied at 48 with just four minutes left to play, the Heat were able to pull away late for the victory.
 
Jose Mackie had a career night for the 'Pack, finishing with 15 points and nine rebounds for TRU. The second-year forward from Cranbrook was a force on both ends of the court for a young WolfPack squad. Megan Rouault with nine and Kelsey Cruz adding eight rounded out the top scorers for TRU.
 
The Heat were once again led by Kelsey Falk. The fifth-year guard from Vernon had 14 points and 11 rebounds in the contest. Jaeli Ibbetson chipped in with eight while both Sofia Ainsa Lluch and Alessia Brutto had six points.
 
A major difference in the game came on the glass where the Heat grabbed 16 offensive rebounds to the WolfPack's eight, leading to 12 second-chance points for UBCO.
 
With the score 41-36 in favour of the Heat entering the fourth quarter, TRU went on a run.
 
Makcie had seven of her team's next 12 points including an and-one finish with four minutes left to go that tied the game at 48.
 
The Heat took control of procedings from there however and ended the game on a 9-2 run to secure their third-straight win.
 
These teams will do battle again tomorrow night inside the TCC with a scheduled start time of 5:30 p.m.
