Weekend Story
KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team will have to be road warriors this weekend when they start their 2022-23 campaign on the road against the Winnipeg Wesmen.
Led by head coach Scott Clark in his 13th year with the program, TRU will return a strong core of the roster that narrowly lost a Canada West postseason game last year.
With five players in their third year season of CW eligibility and some promising additions to the roster, the WolfPack will look to pull off an upset to start their year. The WolfPack were ranked 13th in the CW Coaches Poll while the Wesmen were slotted in 8th.
Going 2-2 in the preseason with wins over the MacEwan Griffins and Mount Royal Cougars, the WolfPack will aiming for their eighth postseason berth in the past nine seasons.
Winnipeg went 4-2 in their preseason slate, including wins over the UQAM Citadins and Brandon Bobcats at the Lea Marc Tournament in late October.

Emerging as a leader on the squad last year, Asher Mayan will be counted on to produce for the 'Pack in his third year with the team. The 6-5 forward can score in bunches with the ability to finish at the hoop and also knock down shots from the outside. Mayan will be a key piece for a TRU squad looking to make some noise in the ever-competitive Canada West conference.
