KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team came just 90 seconds away from grabbing their first victory of the 2022-23 season but couldn't keep the host Winnipeg Wesmen from storming back in a 72-66 defeat.
After struggling against the Wesmen to start their season one night ago, the 'Pack turned things around and went toe-to-toe with Winnipeg tonight. A Simon Crossfield three-pointer with three minutes left to go gave TRU a 66-61 lead but from there Winnipeg ended to game on an 11-point run to snatch the victory away.
Crossfield led TRU with 14 points on the night. Denys Bachurin added 13 and six rebounds, Daniel Bost a further 12 points while Thomas Olsen rounded out the scorers in double-digits with 11.
A dominant defensive performance in the third quarter allowed TRU to take the lead. Trailing the Wesmen by nine points entering the third frame, the WolfPack limited Winnipeg to just nine points for much of the third to claw their way back into the game.
The WolfPack then scored 15 point in the early portions of the final quarter to take the lead before fading away late.
TRU will be back in action for their home-opening weekend on November 18-19 when they host the UBC Okanagan Heat.
