KAMLOOPS - The No. 6 nationally-ranked UBC Thunderbirds proved to be too much for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team to handle as the 'Pack fell by a score of 95-58 in Vancouver on Wednesday night.
The loss brings an end to the 2021-22 regular season for a WolfPack team that will finish with a record of 4-14. A promising start to the campaign that saw TRU go 4-4 in the first semester was derailed in the second semester when the team struggled to an 0-10 mark thanks in part to multiple key contributors missing game time due to injury.
The WolfPack will now prepare for the Canada West playoffs where they will enter as the either the 14th or 15th seed. From March 3-5 the 'Pack will play in a single elimination tournament in either Calgary or Lethbridge in the hopes of advancing to the Canada West Final Four March 18-20.
UBC shot 50 per cent from the floor on the night, en route to scoring over 20 points in each quarter and putting up the second-most points the WolfPack have allowed in a game this season.
The hosts took the lead early in the contest and never looked back as the 37-point advantage the finished the night with was the largest lead they held all game.
Daniel Bost,
Brendan Sullivan and
Gavin Reis all tallied 11 points in the game for TRU. Reis added five rebounds while Bost went 3-4 from long distance. Asher Mayin chipped in with eight points and
Simon Crossfield with six.
James Woods scored a game-high 21 points for UBC with Nikola Guzina and Lincoln Rosebush adding 14 and 13 respectively.
With the WolfPack now scoreboard watching across the Canada West conference further details on their playoff match will be clarified in the days to come.
