KAMLOOPS – A rare pair of midweek games are ahead for a Thompson Rivers Wolfpack men's basketball squad that will be looking to cool down a red-hot UVic Vikes team inside the Tournament Capital Centre.

The 4-9 WolfPack will welcome the 9-1 Vikes at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday and 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with the visitors entering the weekend as one of the hottest teams in Western Canada.

Missing multiple key players due to injury and getting into the foul trouble early in their last action, an undermanned WolfPack team fought to the bitter end in an 80-76 defeat at the hands of the Fraser Valley Cascades last Thursday. Asher Mayan scored a team-high 21 points and went 2-3 from beyond the arc in the losing effort.

UVic swept the previously undefeated UBC Thunderbirds last weekend, taking down the T-Birds by scores of 90-84 and 96-89 in Victoria. The Vikes enter the weekend on the second-longest winning streak in the Canada West conference, with their last loss coming all the way back on October 30.

This will mark the first meetings between the two teams this season ahead of a February 22 game on Vancouver Island. The last time they met in Canada West play the Vikes swept the WolfPack in Victoria by scores of 66-62 and 73-71.

3 Things

1: Fans 12-and-over attending the games will be required to show proof of full vaccination. Per provincial guidelines attendance will be limited to 50 per cent capacity.

2: TRU is 6-24 in conference play against the Vikes but are 3-3 since the 2017-18 season.

3: TRU students get into the games for free.

By the Numbers

90.5 – The Vikes are the highst scoring team in the conference with 90.5 ppg.

13.3 – The WolfPack take extremely good care of the ball, turning the rock over the least of any team in the conference.

Scouting the Vikes

UVic is led by the trio of Diego Maffia (18.8 ppg), Matthew Ellis (16.1) and Scott Kellum (14.5) in attack. As a team UVic is averaging 90.5 ppg to the WolfPack's 69.4. Defensively the Vikes are allowing 74.6 ppg to the WolfPack's 74.3.
