KAMLOOPS – The perennial powerhouse Saskatchewan Huskies proved to be too much for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team in a 90-43 loss in Saskatoon.
Despite falling behind early, the 'Pack battled throughout the night and held Saskatchewan even in the third frame but were unable to dent the deficit.
Makeba Taylor led the way for TRU with 10 points in her 17 minutes on the court, a mark that included a perfect 3-3 night from beyond-the-arc.
Kelsey Cruz added eight while
Elana Sireni had six points and a team-high six rebounds. 20 of the WolfPack's 43 points came from their bench as depth continued to be key for TRU.
Carly Ahlstrom knocked down 27 points for Saskatchewan while Gage Grassick, Tea Demong, Courtney Premeau and Kyla Shand all hit double-digits in scoring.
After falling behind 44-17 at the half, TRU had by far their best performance in the third quarter. Taylor poured in nine points as the 'Pack shot 40 per cent from the floor and limited Saskatchewan to their lowest scoring output in a third frame that saw the teams each score 18 points.
The 'Pack will get the chance to pick up their second win of the season when they face the Huskies tomorrow afternoon at 3 p.m. (PT) in Saskatoon.
