Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack down Bobcats in Brandon

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball picked up their first win of 2023-24 Canada West season with a shootout 77 to 72 road performance over the Brandon Bobcats Friday, Nov. 10.

LEADERS
  • A balanced attack was key for TRU. Danijela Kovacevic (14 points), Grace Hansen (13), Lovisa Ehrnstrom (13), Kelsey Cruz (11) and Kate De La Mare (10) all hit double digits. De La Mare added nine rebounds to finish just shy of the double-double.
  • Reetta Tulkki was a difference maker for the Bobcats with 17 points in her 39 minutes on the floor.
  • It was a game of runs with TRU at one point scoring 27 unanswered points only for the Bobcats to respond with a 25-12 swing of their own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • HALF 1: A slow start to the game for the 'Pack saw Brandon hold 18-14 lead through ten minutes and the hosts would increase that advantage to 25-14 early in the second quarter before the WolfPack went on a run for the ages. TRU scored the next 27 points in the half, holding Brandon scoreless for nearly nine minutes while coming alive offensively. Ehrnstrom tallied 12 points during that span and Vollrath eight. TRU held a 16-point lead at the half.
  • HALF 2: The Bobcats refused to go away however and stormed back in the third quarter by a margin of 25-12 to make the score 53-50 and setup an entertaining fourth quarter. Veterans Danijela Kovacevic and Kelsey Cruz made big shots down the stretch but it was rookie Kate De La Mare that came up clutch when the team needed it the most. With the score knotted at 72-72 and just 30 seconds left on the clock the product of St. Albert, AB caught a ball in the key before spinning and firing a shot that would prove to be the game winner.

NOTABLE
  • The game was the first between the two teams since the 2019-20 season and TRU now holds an 11-3 lead in all-time Canada West play.
  • The victory was the first in a road-opener for TRU since the 2017-18 campaign
