Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Cougars outlast WolfPack in defensive duel

QUICK FIRE
  • They put together a defensive effort for the ages but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team couldn't buy a bucket when they needed it the most in a 54-49 loss to the Regina Cougars inside the TCC.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Only two players hit double digits for the 'Pack with both Thomas Olsen and Cyrus Harrison recording ten points. Harrison also snagged nine rebounds to finish one shy of the double-double.
  • Matt Barnard tallied 12 points for Regina with Cade Mather adding 11.
  • The Cougars won the battle on the glass with 43 rebounds to the WolfPack's 34.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game featured two of the strongest defences in the conference and that was evident throughout the entire night. The teams were tied 28-28 at the half before the WolfPack defence was somehow able to find even another gear.
  • They held Regina to just three points, all of which came from the free throw line, in the entire frame but managed to score just nine themselves to lead by six heading into the fourth and final quarter.
  • As was the case last night, it was Regina who managed to make things happen in the fourth. Luke Harold and Nick Barnard each hit three pointers early as the Cougars took a lead at 39-37 and never looked back.
  • Cyrus Harrison had four points down the stretch but it wasn't enough as Regina held on for the victory.

NOTABLE
  • The 54 points TRU allowed is the fewest in CW play since the 2016 season.
UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will head out on their bye next weekend before finishing their first half of the season schedule on the road at the University of Victoria.
