Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack close the gap late but fall to Spartans

QUICK FIRE
  • The visiting Trinity Western Spartans proved to be too much for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team to handle in a 64-48 loss Saturday night.

LEADERS
  • Both rookie Olivia Randall and veteran Kelsey Cruz had 13 points and five rebounds apiece for TRU. Priyanca Sundher added seven points while Kate De La Mare snagged 10 rebounds.
  • Gracie Comeau was the story of the game for TWU with 17 points and eight rebounds while going 7-11 from the floor. Cassidy Buchanan added another 11 for the Spartans.
  • A major difference in the game was on the glass where TWU won the battle by a tally of 49-35.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Q1: A slow start to the game for both offences saw the Spartans lead after the opening ten minutes thanks in large part to 10 offensive rebounds. Gracie Comeau led all scorers with four points while Cruz had three for the 'Pack.
  • Q2: TWU stretched their lead to 11 heading into the halftime break. A 15-point TWU run to make it a 29-10 game was countered by a late WolfPack push that saw Randall catch fire and cut the lead to 11.
  • Q4: TWU entered the fourth leading 42-32 before the WolfPack gave them a scare. An 11-5 TRU run spurred by seven points from Sundher cut the lead to just four. That was as close as the 'Pack would come however as the Spartans scored 17 of the game's final 24 points to pull out the victory.

NOTABLE
  • Rookies accounted for 126 minutes of the 'WolfPack's 200 minutes on the floor with Grace Hansen (32:17) and Olivia Randall (29:29) leading the way.

UP NEXT
  • The 'Pack will hit the road for the first time in 2023-24 next weekend when they travel to Brandon to face the Bobcats.
