KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team weren't able to end their season on a high note after the visiting Manitoba Bisons rolled to an 84-50 victory inside the TCC.
The Bisons, who lead the Canada West standings with a mark of 18-2 and are ranked No. 8 in the nation, proved to be too much for the 'Pack to handle. Manitoba's offence was on fire in the game, hitting 48 per cent of their shots as a team and knocking down 16 three-pointers on the night.
Simon Hildebrandt led the way offensively for Manitoba, pouring in 16 points thanks in large part to four three-pointers. Elijah Lostracco and Daren Watts tallied 14 and 12 points respectively while all 12 players in the Bisons lineup recorded a bucket in the game.
Thomas Olsen and
Evan Smith both scored 10 points for TRU with Olsen also snagging six rebounds.
The game was within reach early on after neither offence was able to really get going in a first quarter that was a defensive battle. Manitoba shot the ball slightly better of the two teams and five points from Hildebrandt gave them a 19-12 lead after ten minutes.
Manitoba blew the game wide open in the second. Their offence exploded for 27 points in the quarter while holding TRU to just 10. Starting the frame on a 15-0 run powered by five points from Lostracco allowed Manitoba to run away with the game.
The visitors led 46-22 at the half and never looked back en route to the commanding victory.
The loss brings an end to the season for a WolfPack team that will finish just outside of a playoff spot.
