KAMLOOPS – Head coach Chad Jacobson and the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball program have added experience to their squad with the announcement that Jason Okoro has committed to the WolfPack.
After spending time at both the NCAA Division ?and NAIA levels, Okoro - a product of Plano, Texas - is excited to make the journey to Kamloops.
"I am truly blessed and honored to be joining the WolfPack family and I can't wait to meet everyone," said Okoro. "I chose to come to TRU because of the beautiful campus and the great conversations I had with the coaching staff."
Originally from Lagos, Nigeria, Okoro is a 6-1 guard that has previously suited up for both Newman University and McPherson College.
"We are thrilled to have Jason join the WolfPack men's basketball program for the upcoming season," said Jacobson. "Jason brings a great deal of experience and leadership ability to our team."
Okoro initially enrolled at Newman University before an injury forced him to redshirt in 2019-20. After transferring to McPherson College he emerged as a leader on the squad, and finished third on the team in scoring 2021-22 with 325 points in 30 games.
"I am willing to do whatever I can to help my team win," said Okoro. "I see myself bringing to the team a defender that can guard multiple positions who also looks to create on the offensive end.
Averaging 11.3 points-per-game and 3.6 rebounds-per-game, Okoro was a team captain for the Bulldogs and scored a game-high 23 points in their Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament victory.
"He is a highly skilled and intelligent player who will make an immediate impact on the court," said Jacobson. "In addition to his athletic abilities, Jason is a high character individual who will be a great fit within our team culture and philosophy and represent the program the right way."
Already holding an undergrad degree, Okoro is a four-time member of the Dean's List and will enroll in the MBA program at TRU.
"The team looks like a great group of guys and I can't wait to get on the court with them to build something special."
