KAMLOOPS – Remi Barbot scored two minutes into extra time to give the visiting UVic Vikes the 1-0 victory over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in Kamloops Friday night.
TRU outshot UVic 4-3 but Barbot's dramatic finish powered UVic to the win in what was their first game of the season.
Callum Weir recorded the shutout for the Vikes while
Olivier Jumeau made a pair of stops in net for TRU.
The WolfPack dominated the first half but failed to find the back of the net. Their best chance to score came in the 30th minute when
Patrick Izett sent a ball into the box that
Ryan Lewis powered towards net but Weir was able to stop both that attempt and collect the rebound.
UVic battled their way into the game in the second half and the momentum swung in their favour in the 75th minute when TRU defender
Mikkel Rosenlund picked up his second yellow card of the game to send the 'Pack down to 10 men.
The WolfPack rallied despite being a man short and nearly stole the game in the 84th minute but
Dylan Pauw's powerful header soared just past the post.
The contest appeared to be headed for a deadlock before Barbot played hero in time added on. The UVic substitute picked the ball up just beyond the halfway line and drove at the TRU defenders before taking a shot that bounced off a member of the 'Pack and past a helpless Jumeau.
TRU will look to get their season on track tomorrow night when they host the UBC Thunderbirds inside Hillside Stadium at 7:00 p.m. The Vikes meanwhile will head to Kelowna for a contest with the UBC Okanagan Heat.
