Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack roll to weekend sweep over Griffins

QUICK FIRE
  • For the second night in a row the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team proved to be too much for the visiting MacEwan Griffins to handle in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-14) victory inside the TCC.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Brooklyn Olfert had one of the best games of her illustrious WolfPack career for TRU. The former member of the Canada West All-Rookie team finished on 16 of her 21 attacks while also picking up four service aces. Ema Palkovicova added 11 kills for TRU while Libby Meldrum racked up 31 assists.
  • Mariah Bereziuk was good for eight kills to lead MacEwan with six other members of the Griffins recording a kill in the match.
  • TRU dominated at the service line with 10 aces to MacEwan's 5 while also outhitting GMU .345%-.169%.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Five kills from Olfert in the first set helped the 'Pack secure the victory. The WolfPack came out of the gates swinging and jumped out to an immediate 5-0 advantage. TRU took that lead all the way to 24-13 and while the Griffins were able to fight off four set points, a kill from Palkovicova ended the frame.
  • The second set was one of runs. An Arden Butler serving run punctuated by a Bereziuk kill allowed the visitors to take a 6-0 lead to start the set. Olfert powered a TRU comeback with a 5-0 serving run of her own during which she had a pair of aces. With TRU leading 22-21 it was another Olfert ace that allowed the hosts to grow their lead en route to pulling out the 25-22 victory.
  • The third set belonged to TRU as they put the finishing touches on both the win and the weekend sweep.

NOTABLE
  • The result was the first time that the 'Pack have swept a weekend in six-straight sets since the 2019-20 season.
  • Olfert's four aces ties her mark for the most she has hit in a single game this season.
  • TRU moves to 5-9 on the season and are now 3-1 in their last four games.

QUOTABLE – Chad Grimm, head coach
  • I thought the way we played was great. We were stable and consistent, we didn't get too far ahead of ourselves. We did a good job from the service line and put them under a ton of pressure and any time you're able to do that it makes your life a whole lot easier.
  • Brooklyn has found her groove a little bit, she's found some confidence the past three weeks she's been her all-star self and that's great to see. When she's rolling everyone jumps on board and it makes things easier.
  • Libby did a really good job of distributing the ball, our middles were super efficient tonight and that makes the job of our wing hitters much easier.
  • Whenever you can put wins on the board it's important. We hadn't had a sweep this year so it was important for us to put together back-to-back performances
Brooklyn Olfert, 3rd-year outside hitter
  • It's a great feeling to get the sweep, it's awesome to see the whole team working together.
  • I'm just focusing on one point at a time and going for it.
  • When everyone is firing it's awesome, you can feel the vibe on the court just go way up.

UP NEXT
  • The 'Pack will remain in Kamloops and get set to welcome the UBC Okanagan Heat to the TCC next weekend.
