Heat control middle portion of contest to defeat ‘Pack

QUICK FIRE
  • A 55-27 edge through the middle two quarters of the game allowed the UBC Okanagan Heat to run away with 90-54 victory over the TRU WolfPack inside the TCC Friday morning.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • It was a balanced scoring effort for TRU with Kate De La Mare and Danijela Kovacevic leading the way with ten points each. Olivia Randall added nine with Sydney Vollrath and Kelsey Cruz chipping in with eight.
  • Jaeli Ibbetson was on fire for the Heat, going 11-15 from the floor en route to a game-high 28 points. Sofia Ainsa Lluch added another 19 points while also tallying nine assists for the Heat.
  • The Heat shot 46.8 per cent from the floor as a team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • TRU hung tough with the Heat through the opening ten minutes of the game. Kovacevic scored four points and the 'Pack knocked down six of their eight free throws as the 'Pack trailed by just four points after the first quarter.
  • UBCO exploded in the second and third quarters, scoring 26 and 29 points respectively in that 20 minute span to jump out a lead they wouldn't give up en route to the victory.

NOTABLE
  • The win gives UBCO a 3-0 edge over TRU in the race for the women's President's Cup.
  • With seven rebounds De La Mare continues on pace that has her currently second in program history for rebounds-per-game by a rookie.
