Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack hang tough with Heat on the road

QUICK FIRE
  • It was just a seven-point game in the final minute of play as the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team were right with the UBC Okanagan Heat in a 68-55 loss on the road.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Priyanca Sundher knocked down four three-pointers en route to a game-high 14 points for TRU while also grabbing eight rebounds. Rookies Olivia Randall and Kate De La Mare added 11 and respectively.
  • Sofia Ainsa Lluch had 12 points to lead the Heat while Kelsey Falk added 11 point and 14 boards.
  • The Heat outrebounded TRU 60-40 in the contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack shot 41 per cent as a team in the first quarter to lead through the opening 10 minutes. De La mare put the finishing touches on a 10-4 WolfPack run to start the game as the 'Pack led 12-8 at the end of the first.
  • An explosive UBCO offence that dominated the second quarter proved to be the difference in the game as the hosts outscored TRU 26-11 in the frame to take an 11-point lead into the halftime break.
  • After that lead remained the same heading into the fourth quarter, the WolfPack made things interesting late. The WolfPack put together an 11-5 run down the stretch and a layup from De La Mare cut the lead to just 62-55 with a minute left to play.
  • That was as close as TRU would come however as the Heat expanded their lead late to take the match.

NOTABLE
  • Sundher's 14 points and four three-pointers made both tie season-highs for the third-year forward.
  • The result clinches the women's version of the 2023-24 Presidents' Cup for the Heat.

UP NEXT
  • The 'Pack will return to Kamloops next weekend where they will host the UNBC Timberwolves inside the TCC.
