No. 8 ranked Cascades topple WolfPack

QUICK FIRE
  • It was a wire-to-wire 80-36 victory for the visiting Fraser Valley Cascades over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in Canada West women's basketball action Friday night inside the TCC.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Rookie Grace Hansen led the way with 10 points for the WolfPack while also recording a pair each of steals and assists. Priyanca Sundher added seven points and Tia Rowell six.
  • Kamloops product Maddy Gobeil, who entered the weekend atop the CW scoring race, had a strong night for the Cascades with 17 points and seven steals.
  • A major difference in the game came in the ballhandling department with TRU turning the ball over 43 times to the Cascades 22.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cascades, ranked the eighth best team in the nation, dominated the opening frame. Nine different Fraser Valley players found the net as they roared out to a 29-9 lead.
  • TRU was able to fight back and put together their best quarter of the game in the second frame. The 'Pack knocked down a pair of three-pointers en route to 12 points and cut the Cascades advantage to 47-21 at the half.
  • From there the nationally ranked Cascades were able to seal the victory and take the first game of the team's weekend series.

NOTABLE
  • The six points scored by Rowell were a new career-high for the rookie out of Walnut Grove.
  • 27 of the WolfPack's 36 points were scored by rookies as the young team continues to grow.

  • These teams will be back in action tomorrow with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m. inside the TCC.
