Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | TRU WolfPack

Timberwolves keep ‘Pack off scoreboard

QUICK FIRE
  • A goal in the first half was all the visiting UNBC Timberwolves needed to secure victory in a 1-0 win over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's soccer team at Hillside Stadium Friday night.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Timberwolves nearly opened the scoring early when Isaac Tate sped in behind the WolfPack defence before sending a ball to Mehdi Bounaaja, but his effort rattled off the crossbar.
  • TRU's best chance to score in the first half came 16 minutes into the game. Marcus D'Andrea showed off his pace on the counter attack but his attempt towards goal sailed just over the crossbar and away from harm.
  • UNBC scored the lone goal of the game just minutes later. Kim stepped up to a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box and curled in a lightning bolt of a strike that found the bottom corner of the net.
  •  The WolfPack bounced back from the disappointment of conceding and held sway throughout much of the rest of the game.
  • TRU came as close as you can to scoring without finding the back of the net five minutes into the second half. Minwoo Kang delivered a corner kick that Coulibaly was first to for a pair of chances. His first strike rang off the cross bar while his second was just parried away by Pierce.
  • The WolfPack battled the rest of the night but that was as close as they'd come to equalizing the score.
NOTABLE
  • Shots on goal were 4-3 in favour of UNBC.
  • The WolfPack earned six corner kicks in the match.
  • The match was the second-to-last of the season for a young TRU squad.
UP NEXT
  • These squads will play the final games of their season tomorrow night with a kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hillside Stadium. Prior to the match, the WolfPack will honour Mikkel Rosenlund and Olivier Jumeau in the final home games of their university careers.
