Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

Clutch WolfPack earn victory over Bisons

QUICK FIRE
  • It was a hard-earned first victory of the season for the Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's volleyball team as they claimed some marathon set victories en route to a 3-1 (38-36, 22-25, 27-25, 25-20) win over the Manitoba Bisons in Winnipeg.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • A three-headed attack powered the 'Pack to victory. Rylan Ibbetson was the picture of efficiency with 16 kills and just four errors while also firing in a trio of aces. Dylan Annala added 15 kills and only two errors and Sam Flowerday recorded a game-high 17 kills of his own. Second-year setter Walker Sodaro recorded 50 assists in the game.
  • Karil Dadash Adeh led the Bisons with 14 kills while Eric Ogaranko added 10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first set was a sign of things to come in the game as the two teams battled right down to the wire. The WolfPack fought off seven set points in a marathon battle that was finished off by Ibbetson with back-to-back kills as the 'Pack squeaked out a 38-36 victory. Annala had seven kills as the 'Pack hit .341 per cent as a team in the set.
  • After the Bisons took the second set 25-22, it was once again the WolfPack earning a close victory in the third. Back-to-back Bisons misses gave TRU some breathing room with a 21-18 lead. From there Jakob Leineman recorded a kill and a block assist, Gavin Margerison and Flowerday combined for a block and Flowerday put the set away with an ace to give TRU the 27-25 victory. Ibbetson led the 'Pack with five kills in the set.
  • The WolfPack were able to put the match away in the fourth as they jumped out to a 20-14 lead and never looked back. Ibbetson put the finishing touches on the game with back-to-back kills for the victory.

NOTABLE
  • The WolfPack had 22 blocks to the Bisons' 12.
  • Both Annala and Leineman made the first start of their respective TRU careers.
  • TRU is now 1-1 on the season.

QUOTABLE – Head coach Pat Hennelly.
  •  Great effort from the guys tonight to stay engaged over the first three close sets. Dylan Annala was excellent tonight with Rylan Ibbetson having a big night offensively, especially from the service line.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will return to Kamloops and get set for their home-opening weekend against the UBC Okanagan Heat on Nov. 1-2. The game Friday night will get underway at 5:30 p.m. inside the TCC.
