Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack sweep Bisons to complete perfect opening weekend

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team put the rest of the league on notice with a dominant 3-0 ( 25-22, 25-21, 25-22) victory over the reigning CW Champion Manitoba Bisons Saturday night to complete the weekend sweep.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • For the second night in a row Rida Erlalelitepe led the way for TRU by hitting .444 per cent with 14 kills and two errors. Brooklyn Olfert added 11 kills and Maria Dancheva 10. Libby Meldrum made her first start of the season and recorded 30 assists. Faith Christensen put up an impressive eight block assists in the game.
  • Reigning U SPORTS Player of the Year Raya Surinx was the only player to break into the double digits for Manitoba with 13 kills in the game. Eve Catojo and Andi Almonte both added eight.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • With 16 kills in the first set, the WolfPack hit .263 per cent as a team. An Erlalelitepe kill gave TRU a commanding advantage at 18-13. The set was put away with a kill from Olfert.
  • The closest set of the night was settled by the 'Pack hitting over .333 per cent as a team. Trailing 16-14, TRU went on a run bolstered by a block from Hailey Ward and an ace courtesy of Hadley Schmidt to jump out to a 20-18 edge. Erlalelitepe ended the set with back-to-back kills.
  • The WolfPack put the finishing touches on a shocking weekend sweep in the third set. The team put down 13 kills as a squad. The WolfPack led early and were able to put away the set late. After a four-point lead evaporated, the 'Pack finished out the set thanks to kills from Erlalelitepe and Dancheva.

QUOTABLE – Head coach Chad Grimm
  •  I was really happy with how the team came out. It was an unknown for us after getting a big win yesterday how we would react and obviously the team did well.
  • Libby Meldrum came in and set and I thought she did a good job. Myah Cressy came in and did a good job.
  • I thought our serve and pass game was good and we were able to spread the ball a little more than yesterday so overall it was an efficient weekend and happy to be coming home with a pair of results.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will return to Kamloops and get set for their home-opening weekend against the UBC Okanagan Heat on Nov. 1-2. The game Friday night will get underway at 6:45 p.m. inside the TCC.
