Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

No. 9 WolfPack make it three-in-a-row to start season in scrappy victory

QUICK FIRE

  • For just the second time in program history the Thompson Rivers WolfPack have started a Canada West campaign with three-straight victories to start a season after they defeated the UBC Okanagan Heat 3-1 (25-17, 22-25, 25-23, 25-18) inside the TCC.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Starting the night with their most efficient set as a team, TRU took an early lead thanks in large part to four kills from Olfert. As a team, the 'Pack held UBC to just three kills en route to roaring out of the gates with a 25-17 win.
  • The Heat offence came to life to carry them to victory in a close second set. Perry had five kills and middle Natalie Funk four, as the Heat scored six of the final nine points in the set to pull out the 25-22 victory.
  • The third set was one where momentum swung from side-to-side. Trailing 11-5, TRU went on a ridiculous 10-0 run powered by some tough serving from Erlalelitepe to lead 15-11. With TRU up 24-21, the Heat fought off a pair of set points before a service error ended the frame with the score 25-23 in favour of the 'Pack.
  • The WolfPack closed out the match buoyed by a .225 hitting percentage as a team. After taking a 16-12 advantage, TRU never looked back with Keira Gent recording the final kill of the game as the 'Pack took the Interior rivalry match.

NOTABLE
  • Over $5000 was raised for the Owyn McInnis Memorial – Men's Volleyball Award through donations at the game.
  • This is the second time in program history that TRU has started a Canada West season with three wins with the first coming in 2019-20.
  • TRU is ranked No. 9 in the country.
  • Over 950 fans packed the TCC during the contest.
UP NEXT
