Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Vollrath’s career high not enough as ‘Pack fall to Heat

QUICK FIRE
  • KAMLOOPS – Sydney Vollrath set a new career high but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team were unable to start their season with a win in a 71-47 loss to the UBC Okanagan Heat to start their season.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • The 16 points scored by Vollrath came in 29 minutes of work for the second-year guard who also added five rebounds. Danijela Kovacevic added 12 points of her own while Kate De La Mare finished with 11 rebounds.
  • Tsuki Tsuzuki scored a game-high 17 points for the Heat with Lily Pink (14 points), Temi Aina (12) and Lauren Foullong (10) also breaking double digits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack were ready to go toe-to-toe with the Heat to start the game. A layup from rookie Morgan Eichenberger gave TRU a 7-5 lead halfway through the opening frame and Kovacevic kept that up with another score soon after, but from there the Heat found another gear. UBCO finished the quarter on an 11-1 run powered by four from Pink to take a 19-10 lead into the break.
  • While the Heat scored 25 points in the second quarter, the 'Pack fired back with Olivia Randall knocking down back-to-back three-pointers to make the score 44-24 in favour of the visitors at half.
  • Vollrath led the way for the 'Pack in the third quarter with six points in the frame. Tsuzuki responded with six of her own however for the Heat and the visitors increased their advantage to 60-34.
  • The WolfPack played some of their best baskeball of the night in the fourth and final quarter. Vollrath had six points in the early going as TRU started on an 8-0 run. TRU would outscore UBCO 13-11 in the final quarter but couldn't make a dent in the Heat's eventual 24-point victory.
NOTABLE
  • UBCO held a big advantage on the glass with 57 rebounds to TRU's 39.
  • Rookie and Kamloops local, Morgan Eichenberger, made her first career start for TRU.

UP NEXT
  • TRU will now hit the road for the first away game of their 2024-25 campaign this weekend when they face the UNBC Timberwolves.
