Cascades run away from WolfPack in TCC

QUICK FIRE
  • They played their best basketball of the night in the second half, but the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's basketball team was unable to get back level with the UFV Cascades in an 87-44 loss inside the TCC.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Kate De La Mare led the way for TRU with ten points in the game while also grabbing five rebounds. Danijela Kovacevic was extremely effective distributing the ball to finish the night with seven assists.
  • Kamloops local Maddy Gobeil had a game-high 21 points to lead UFV. Julia Tuchscherer added 19 points and seven rebounds while Nikki Cabuco knocked down a trio of three-pointers for 12 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UFV, who made it all the way to the U SPORTS Final 8 tournament last season, came out of the gates hot with a 10-0 run to start the game. The Cascades shot over 50 per cent from the floor as a team in the first half to hold a 55-17 lead through 20 minutes of play.
  • The WolfPack started to find their groove in the second half. De La Mare had four in the frame as the 'Pack started to knock down shots and limited UFV to just 13 points.
  • TRU's best basketball of the game came in the fourth quarter. The WolfPack shot 58 per cent from the floor as a team over the final ten minutes en route to pouring in 18 points. De La Mare had four points in the quarter while Olivia Randall, Kovacevic, Sydney Vollrath and Jocelyn Orr all added three for a WolfPack squad that fought until the end.
NOTABLE
  • UFV moves to 4-1 on the season while the 'Pack fall to 0-5.
  • Kovacevic's seven assists are a new career high for the fourth-year guard.
