Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack earn chances but can’t take down No. 3 Cascades

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team came close but couldn't pull out the upset in a 3-1 (25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 25-23) loss at the hands of the No. 3 ranked UFV Cascades.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cascades jumped out to a 7-3 lead early in the first, but TRU stormed back to tie it up at 21 thanks to a 6-1 run that featured a pair of kills from Gent. UFV was able to put the set away however and took the first 25-22.
  • A kill from Erlalelitepe gave the 'Pack set point at 24-21 in the second set but TRU was unable to capitalize. The Cascades fired back three-straight points and then fought off another set points before earning a slim 28-26 victory.
  • TRU would not go away easily, as they came out strong in the third to take an 11-8 lead after a pair of kills from Ward. Two Kate Lamothe aces extended that advantage to five, and despite a late push from UFV, the WolfPack took it 25-21.
  • UFV wrapped up the match in the fourth.  The teams battled back-and-forth in the tying it up at 23, but two straight Mandi Feist kills closed out the match for UFV, 25-23.

NOTABLE
  • The loss drops TRU, who entered the weekend ranked No. 4 in Canada, to 4-2.
  • UFV sits atop the Canada West conference with a record of 7-1.
  • The WolfPack fired in five aces to UFV's three and only made 11 service errors compared to the Cascades' 17.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach, Chad Grimm)
  • We did some good things, but started a little bit slow and uncertain – we let some tips score again. We changed things up a little bit defensively so it was great to see a whole bunch of different people step up and compete.
  • We had chances in both the second and fourth set to close them out and we didn't. I think part of that is just getting used to being in that position more and more.
  • It's the difference between being the hunter and the hunted, I think in the Manitoba weekend we had difference expectations and got a result and now that has changed a bit. The only way we are going to get better is being in that position. I thought overall we had a competitive weekend with a really good UFV team.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will return to Kamloops for their final home games of the first semester next weekend when they host the TWU Spartans on Nov. 22-23 inside the TCC.
