Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | TRU WolfPack

Heartbreak as buzzer beater sinks ‘Pack

QUICK FIRE
  • It was a heartbreaking loss in the final seconds for a Thompson Rivers WolfPack men's basketball team that fell 70-67 to the TWU Spartans in Langley Saturday night.

DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Cyrus Harrison led the 'Pack with 17 points as the third-year forward went 6-8 from the floor. Dami Farinloye tallied 13 points and grabbed seven boards while both Denys Bachurin and Evan Smith scored 11.
  • Jerric Palma scored a team-high 17 for TWU with Josh Belvin following close behind with 13 of his own.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Smith went a perfect 2-2 from long-range in the first quarter to score eight points and keep the 'Pack within one of the Spartans through the opening ten minutes.
  • After the Spartans pulled that out to a ten-point lead at the half, TRU responded in the third. The hosts stretched their lead to 12 early in the third before an 11-0 WolfPack run that featured five different scorers brought the visitors to back within one.
  • A layup from Harrison tied the match back up with just over four-and-a-half minutes left to play. Denys Bachurin gave TRU the lead for the first time since early in the night when he knocked down a pair of free-throws to make the score 67-65 in favour of the 'Pack with 1:19 left. After the Spartans tied that tally they pulled in a rebound off a WolfPack game-winning attempt and Josh Belvin let go a half court heave that found nothing but net and gave the Spartans the victory.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will return to Kamloops for the final weekend of their first semester when they host the Saskatchewan Huskies inside the TCC Nov. 29-30.
