Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

Efficiency key as WolfPack roll to sweep of Huskies

QUICK FIRE
  • Powered by three high-efficiency nights on offence, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team picked up a dominant 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-14) sweep over the Saskatchewan Huskies in Saskatoon.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Rida Erlalelitepe, Maria Dancheva and Brooklyn Olfert were all key for the 'Pack. Erlalelitepe hit .545 per cent with 13 kills and just one error, Dancheva contributed a .524 per cent night 12 kills and just one error while Brooklyn Olfert added 11 kills, two aces, two solo blocks and 14 serve receptions. In a return to her home town, setter Hadley Schmidt directed the offence to the tune of 27 assists.
  • Keely Anderson and Taryn Hannah paced the Huskies with 10 and nine kills respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The WolfPack sailed to victory in the first set, compiling four aces en route to the 10-point set victory. Dancheva led the way with three kills in the set. A 7-2 WolfPack run spark by two kills from Faith Christensen took the game from tied at 7-7 to a dominant 14-9 lead for the 'Pack. TRU ended the frame with  Christensen and Erlalelitepe combining for a block.
  • The second was the closest set of the night. The Huskies fought back after Erlalelitepe gave the 'Pack a commanding edge at 22-17 with the hosts scoring five of the next seven points. A kill from Olfert ended the set with the 'Pack taking it 25-22
  • TRU put the game on ice in the third. Olfert started the frame on a dominant serving run to allow the 'Pack to jump out to a 7-1 advantage. After the Huskies did their best to battle back in the middle of the frame TRU ended the set and match in dominant fashion with an 11-4 run capped off by an Erlalelitepe kill to end the night.

NOTABLE
  • Olivia Andulajevic moved past the 600 career dig mark in the match, making her just the fifth player in program history to do so in CW play.
  • After the win tonight, Thompson Rivers – who is ranked No. 5 in Canada - moves to 7-2 on the season.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach, Chad Grimm)
  • For the most part we played pretty solid – we had a couple lapses.
  • I thought our block defence was pretty good, we transitioned with our out of system setting giving our hitters pretty good looks for the most part.
  • Our three wing hitters (Erlalelitepe, Dancheva and Olfert) were really efficient and I thought Hadley did a good job of spreading out the offence and using the middle of the court as well.
  • Overall, a solid performance.

UP NEXT
  • The WolfPack will take on the Huskies once again tomorrow afternoon in a game that gets underway at 1 p.m. PT.
