Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | TRU WolfPack

WolfPack complete perfect weekend with sweep of Huskies

QUICK FIRE
  • The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women's volleyball team won all six sets they played this weekend as they put the finishing touches on a sweep of the Saskatchewan Huskies with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-22) victory in Saskatoon.
DIFFERENCE MAKERS
  • Brooklyn Olfert was the story offensively for TRU with 14 kills and a trio of aces to her credit. Rida Erlalelitepe and Maria Dancheva contributed with eight kills apiece. Addison Witkowski added five on just six attacks while also recording four block assists. Libby Meldrum racked up 29 assists in the game.
  • Keely Anderson and Ella Milne led the Huskies with 11 and eight kills respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Five kills from Olfert paced the 'Pack to victory in the first. With the teams knotted up at 14-14, TRU edged ahead and took their first three-point lead of the set at 20-17 thanks to an ace from Madison Maichin. From there the 'Pack were able to close things out with Rida Erlalelitepe providing the finishing kill.
  • The WolfPack took command of the second set early as Dancheva fired in a pair of kills to help the 'Pack jump up 11-5. The Huskies refused to go away however, and scored 14 of the next 21 points to lead 19-17. Maichin was key for the WolfPack once again as she fired in back-to-back aces to even the score. The 'Pack ended the set on a 5-0 run keyed by three kills from Olfert to take the frame 25-20,
  • TRU hit .342 in the third set to put the match away with Olfert leading the charge with four kills. TRU jumped out to a five-point lead early and never looked back as kills from Dancheva and Erlalelitepe sandwiched an Olfert ace to end the match.
NOTABLE
  • The win moves TRU to 8-2 on the season, giving them the highest win percentage after the first semester of play in program history.
  • TRU entered the weekend ranked fifth in the nation.

QUOTABLE (WolfPack head coach, Chad Grimm)
  • We got a weekend sweep on the road and I think sometimes this is the toughest weekend to play after a long semester with exams coming up.
  • We had a long road trip and played early in a different time zone so it wasn't our cleanest game today.
  • We would start well in sets and then let our foot off the gas and I think at times Saskatchewan was the more aggressive team and that was paying off for them, but at the end of the day we found a way to close out the sets so obviously that's the important thing.
  • I'm happy with the weekend overall.

UP NEXT
  • The games bring an end to an incredibly successful first semester for the 'Pack. They will be back in action on January 10 inside the TCC.
